They say LOL is the best medicine. I can’t agree more. So, with that in mind, I thought I share with you simple ways to increase it. After all, we all can benefit from more laughter. Enjoy.
1. Subscribe to humor blog – Humor blogs would be an awesome addition to your RSS reader. Sorry, I meant to say everyone.
- Failblog This is my favorite humor site. The posts are short and are updated every few hours. If you like this blog, you would also enjoy this, this, and this, (and this).
- Cracked This site has tons of funny articles, though I don’t subscribe to the blog. The articles are often long and time consuming. I do however, visit the site whenever I’m bored. If you are looking for their RSS feed, you can get it here.
2. Subscribe to comedians in Twitter – So you think it’s hard to crack a joke with 140 characters? Well, not for these people. Here’s a good list of 85 comedians to follow.
3. Create a play list of cheerful songs – Instead of only having play list categorized based on genres, I recommend creating a play list with songs that can cheer you up, my favorite being Unwritten By Natasha Bedingfield. The song never fails to make me smile. For music player, try Itune. It’s simple and easily manageable.
4. Spend quality time with love ones – Remember that guy who never fails to make you smile? Or that woman who is always there for you? Or that adorable kid who looks just like you? Take them out for movies, dinner, recreational parks, etc. You know they deserve it.
5. Take some time to procrastinate and enjoy yourself – I said it before, and I’ll say it again. Procrastination is healthy. Whenever you lack focus, it doesn’t hurt to take a break. Watch Youtube, read blogs or take a power nap works great to rejuvenate that lost energy. I recommend Youtube for the lol.
Have anything to add? Share it in the comment section below.
PS: I don’t recommend giggling. It hurts your stomach.…
If you enjoy the article, please share the love via twitter. I’d appreciate it.

In my observation, playing trick with our pets can call a lot of laughter. Of course not cruel trick. I use to put a ribbon on my cats tail and see him go in circles. it always makes me laugh.

I love cats as well Walter. Though I don’t have a pet yet. I would love to have one in the future. For the time being, I’m not ready for the commitment.

Thanks for sharing those websites. I really like failblog but I never heard of the others. For italian speakers I also suggest to listen to the zoo of 105, which is very funny

Nice tips Karlil. Another thing I want to add to your list is learn to make other people laugh. When you make other’s life, you can’t but help laughing yourself (even if it’s on the inside).

That is so true Tristan. I’m the type that laugh at my own jokes. I know it can be very lame, so I’m still trying to cut down on the habit. Thanks for the add.

Hi Karlil, laughter is definitely a powerful weapon to fight bad mood, bad health and bad attitude. I know that these things are pretty obvious but nevertheless they are worth mentioning: watch comedies, read humorous books and magazines, go to comedian shows (I think it is good to step away from the online world for a while
). Great post to start a weekend. Thank you!

Afraid not, a dog in Paris is cruelty (in my opinion). Large animals aren’t suited for appartments. Those photos are at my parents’ place in the country.

Hey Nik.
There sure is some enjoyable material in this set. I like Failblog for some of the great material it puts out. I watched one of the surfer videos on it a bunch of times.
Good point about procrastinating there for those times where entertainment is needed. It doesn’t make sense to push beyond regular working capacity.
We sure use songs often for various purposes. Happy ones are good at some times.

Thanks Karlil for these great tips, especially the last one about procastrinating – I am just off for a power nap:-)
Laughing with others and NOT at others is really important.
And remember that saying – when you laugh the world laughs with you, but when you cry, no one cries with you.
So keep laughing!

Nice tips, Karlil,
The new episodes of “Family Guy” make me laugh every single time I watch them. I also found the “Austin Powers” and “Naked Gun” movies hilarious as well.
It’s just not good to be serious and analytical 100% of the time. We could all use a little silliness every now and then.

Here is a crazy idea…
What if you understood and accepted yourself and take 100% responsibility of yourself.
Then your life is more complete, with room for improvement. Rather then things to get rid of to get to the norm.
It seems to me that being happy all your life beats having brief moments of happiness joy that is brought by T.V, entertainers or whatever.

I get what you mean Mac. But I would say it’s almost impossible to be complete. There will always be obstacles in the way. I think to seek a perfect living is and will always be a work in progress. That is to say, we need to recharge ourselves from time to time. And laughter is a great way to do so.

Great Post Karlil. Being a Stand-up Comedian it’s easy to become immune to humour but you find ways to keep it going. Another great tip is become more open to the funnies happening around you. Allow me to share a quick story.
I recently installed an app on my blackberry that will read out texts to me when I’m driving. I left this on while at my mums place. A text came through from a friend that said: “hey amit, hope you’re cool, give me a ring later xxxxxxxxxxxxx” The problem with the program is that when it came to all the x’s…it sounded like it was saying “s.e.x.” repeatedly My mum had the strangest look on her face! LOL
There is humour all around all of the time. Keep a look out for them!
