Being a guy who enjoys the outdoor, a sunny day never fails to put a smile on my face.
Few years ago, I decided to paint my bedroom. Being excited that I am, I took the liberty to study the effect that colors have on our emotions.
I have always known that colors affect our mood you see, though I have no idea what is what.
This is what I came to learn:
Yellow is the color of cheerfulness. Blue is calming. Green brings about peacefulness. In general, bright colors are energizing. Dark colors are the opposite.
So for bedrooms, unless you want to be energetic during nighttime (for the most part…), bright colors are not a wise choice.
But what does this have to do with happiness you asked?
When you’re unhappy, take a break and surround yourself with bright colors. Instead of secluding yourself in your room, take a stroll in the outdoor, the park or the beach.
Misery is just like the rain. Though it can be depressing, it is essential to bring life on earth. And when the rain finally decides to stop, it will always be accompanied by the sun that shines ever so brightly.

Mmm… color therapy. I think it’s also interesting to see how sometimes certain colors interact with peoples’ temperaments to create somewhat various emotional reactions. For example, I know people who are energized by the color red, some who just get aggitated.

That’s true Aduard. Some colors bear different meaning to others. For me personally, I find red striking and sexy. Nothing beats a red lingerie imo. And no, I’m not a pervert. I’m just too honest for my own good.

I love black, white and red. When they are used together, the seem to give a sense of strength and boldness.

I think white and red make a good combination. Thanks for the comment Goldie.

Indeed on rainy days I would like to have a yellow car
I studied a bit about colors last week because I needed them for a website. Great post!

Nice short post Karlil. I agree with this because sometimes I don’t know why, but the weather affects my mood. A day with blue skies, and some sun makes me a lot more happy compared to a day with no sun and only gray, cloudy weather. That makes me more gloomy. Even though I have adjusted to those times, it’s not doubt that colors can affect a person’s mood more than we think.

Same here Tristan. I find rainy days depressing as hell. And it’s not convenient too. Whether enjoying the outdoor, doing laundry, etc.

HI Karlil,
All the greens and blues are healing and calming all at the same time. Awesome!
I have been a firm believer of colors and their healing properties. You know..everytime youre in pain..just visualise a bright green on that part of the body..and in sometime the healing will rapidly increase..and the pain will just vanish.
As for the surrounding colors…nature is the best isnt it

That’s so true Zeenat. Visualizing works great as well as you said, though I would prefer to be awe by nature anytime of the day if time permit. I do visualize from time to time. I have some awesome pictures to help me visualize better. I love visualizing the beach. The sound of wave, the gentle wind, the smell of sea. It’s a perfect hideout to release stress.

Karlil, Color definitely affects one’s mood, but I don’t find that a rainy day is miserable at all. Today I took a walk in the rain to a small natural area near my house. I saw several beautiful birds which winter over in this area.
Of course since I live in Seattle I feel differently about the rain than many people do.
