Story Of The Average Kid

Sometimes, life is like a dream until we become aware of it

Sometimes, life is like a dream until we become aware of it

This is a story of a kid, a kid that is blessed. He was born with two hands, two legs, a pair of eyes, a nose, and just like many others, he was perfect.

And he believed he was perfect for some time too. He was full of dream and hope for what’s to come.

But slowly as he grew, he lost track. Slowly, he forgot about his dream, he forgot about his hope. He was hit by reality.

Reality where life may not be as easy as he once believed. Gradually, He gave up thinking about it.

He was an adult now. He was doing average, just like others, the average people. Be it his score, be it his salary, be it the car he drive or the house he live in. But he was contented, on the outside.

Deep inside him however, he was not. He was full of envy of those living their dream. He envies those who were born rich and lucky. He was not happy.

For some time now, he was just living for the sake of living. He lost his goal, he lost his passion and he lost his confidence. Don’t get him wrong, he was as much contented as he was jealous of the others.

Contentment takes away pressure for him to better himself. Contentment makes live so much easier for him.

Deep down however, he was actually worried, and he was scared too, he doesn’t want anymore false hope. He had enough of that when he was younger. He has lost all the faith he used to have in himself. And so he continue living his life, day by day, month by month, year by year, all just for the sake of living.

He was me and he happens to make up the majority of the people, the average.

But life wasn’t suppose to be like that. Life is about progression. Life is about improvement. Life is about chasing goals. Life is about having fun. Life is about loving. And yet, most of the people choose to stay stagnant, day dreaming and hating.

Funny how things turn out to be. Every second of every moment lies a choice. And in every choices, lies opportunity for a better tomorrow. And yet most choose to use it for the sole purpose of enjoying it for the very moment without any regards to moderation and a happier tomorrow. It makes us all wonder, why?

I may be wrong if i say life is about this and that. This is because i believe every individual has their own definition on what life means to them. So, the question is, what does life means to you? What do you hope to accomplish or get out of it? Please share =)

As long as you are truly contented with yourself and things surrounding you, i can’t agree more wnm.

I know a lot of people could relate to this story, they will make a lot of excuses to say that they are so contented with what they have but as a matter of fact they wish for more. I do think that we should make the effort to achieve what we want however hard it may be. If we fail, well,at least we did try and there will be no regrets.
To answer your question karlil, what I want most is freedom but its not that easy to achieve due to family commitments and yes its true that I do have a choice but can I be that selfish to live my life….live for myself?

Hi Mel. In regards to your questions,

Being selfish is a choice. It is a hard to make decision but it is still a choice and sometimes it must be done no matter how difficult it may be especially when it comes to living your dream, having freedom in this regard.

But before deciding on making the choice, have it ever occur to you that maybe all you want is but the idea of freedom and not freedom itself?

I hope I’m not confusing you here. Sometimes what we think we would want might not really be what we actually wanted. Its only because we don’t have it yet, that we want it.

I believe a man should never run from his responsibilities, no matter how tough it may be.

While I’m not sure if this family commitments are rightfully yours to carry, i believe it is important to find a solution that can compromise both. Family is high on my priority list =)

Maybe a new timetable that gives you more time for yourselves could be a good solution. Talk to them about it. I’m sure they would understand. Spread some of the responsibilities to others for a change. If there is a will, there is a way. Good luck Mel. I wish you well and happy always.
