New Year Resolution, Let’s Go!

New year resolution

Konnichi wa, Karlil here.

Before I get started, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my readers a Happy New Year. It’s a great feeling isn’t it? New year is. I always enjoy New Year’s Eves. The anticipation and hope for a brighter year ahead, along with those mesmerizing fireworks. New Year is a man’s romance.

But back to the point. Have you make your new year resolution? If you haven’t, why not come up with one. It’s free.

What? You want to know my new year resolution?

It’s kind of embarrassing to share it here, but if you really insist…

I guess it would be, learning a new language for me. Well, Japanese to be exact. It has always been my dream to be able to speak in Japanese, you see. Though it may be a small dream, it’s one that makes me happy.

So my plan is to memorize one Japanese word a day. This is after I master the basic Japanese expressions. To ensure success, I would talk to myself in Japanese when no one is looking, and buy some Japanese drama series. Perfect!

Well enough of Me, let’s focus on You instead. What do you wish for? What do you want to achieve next year?

Have you thought about it?

New year is a good excuse to come up with a goal, so don’t miss out on this chance. Forget quitting cigarettes, getting a new girlfriend and the likes, though it’s embarrassing to admit, I’ve been there before, and it’s just not realistic. It’s always better to focus on what you are able to control. Perhaps going to the gym thrice a week, learn a new language or make a blog.

Whatever it is you have in mind, it’s best to have as little goal as possible. In case you have forgotten, in order to make a new habit, you need to be consistent for at least the first 30 days. In the end, it’s all about maintaining focus and motivation.

Again, I would like to wish all my readers a Happy New Year, I love you guys. To a great year ahead!

xoxo (this means kiss and hug btw. Don’t ask me why…)

Hey Karlil,

The only Japanese I know is Mushi Mushi which I believe is the phone greeting(?)

Wishing you a very happy new year and every success with your resolutions! :-)

Nik… Nihongo, really? Just kidding. I love Japanese. I took four years of it in high school and pretty much forgot everything. I only know basic terms though. I think the best way is to practice being with people that naturally speak it. With time, it just sinks in. That’s how I learned Taiwanese. :)

I’m sure it will be easy for you to learn Nihongo. I have had that subject during my college year and I don’t find it hard. Anyway, I like what you’ve said about forming habits and I can attest to the effectiveness of your first 30 days. If it wasn’t for this knowing, I was not able to build my writing ability, let alone creating a blog. :-)

Hey Nik, that’s a big goal, learning Japanese. I’m still working on English! Haven’t connected for awhile so I thought I would stop by and say hi. Your blog is looking good my friend.

I personally don’t make new year resolutions. It is not that I don’t have goals and aspirations, I just don’t think it is that effective to superficially make them on what is otherwise a random day.
